Emily Hubley's The Toe Tactic
San Francisco International Film Festival
West Coast Premiere thru May 2

Writer/director/animator Emily Hubley’s feature film debut brings her great lineage (daughter of animation pioneers John and Faith Hubley), distinctive hand-drawn style and an entire artistic community to an offbeat cinematic hybrid that plays both melancholically and mischievously on the themes of time, memory, loss and yearning. The story of a young woman searching for a father she never knew, the film is a touching combination of live action and animation. San Francisco International Film Festival

A bridge that falls in love, sheep that paint, even a goat that eats time—come and see the melding of two wondrous worlds as animators from all over the globe speak to their biggest fans—kids. This program of animated shorts plays once on Sunday, May 4 at the Kabuki. www.SFiFF.org

SFSU Animation Finals
College of Creative Arts

San Francisco State University (where ASIFA-SF's president Karl Cohen is also an instructor) presents this year's crop of animated student films as part of a week of Student Film Finals. Faculty adviser Martha Gorzycki will host a program that is sure to encompass a wide range of styles and subject matter. Past programs have played to capacity crowds in the 250 seat theater, so get there early if you want to sit! Free to the public, Fine Arts Theater, 1600 Holloway Avenue, San Francisco.

2nd Annual Animation Festival

The Art Institute of California-San Francisco is proud to present its second annual Animation Festival. The Festival is no charge and open to the public. This entertaining hour-long program showcases the school's best animated works by students, alumni and faculty. This year's Festival will feature the world premiere of short films by the first graduating class of the Master of Fine Arts in Computer Animation program. Herbst Theater is at 401 Van Ness Avenue, San Francisco.
